Why - The Initiative

Local computer science students, their tutors and professionals from the local tech scene are joining in the mission to introduce youth and their whanau to the basics of computer science and programming on December 8!

Together they are bring the Hour of Code™ a global movement that believes the students of today are ready to learn critical skills for 21st century success for the third year running

As you know, computers are everywhere, changing every industry on the planet, but few schools teach computer science. Girls and minorities are severely underrepresented in computer science classes, and in the tech industry. Good news is, we’re on our way to change this! More than 100 million youth worldwide have tried an Hour of Code™ and hundreds already in Tauranga

With the Hour of Code™, computer science has been on homepages of Google, MSN, Yahoo! and Disney. Over 100 partners have joined together to support this movement. Every Apple Store in the world has hosted an Hour of Code.

That’s why all your school students and their teachers, youth and their parents are invited to join on the largest collective learning event in history, the Hour of Code™ on Thursday 8th December from 11am at Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology.

The Hour of Code™is organized globally by the nonprofit and locally by Venture Centre and partners. It is a FREE event thanks to the support of local sponsors.
